Join WALGA as our Infrastructure Asset Management Specialist, a newly created role that will influence how Local Governments manage and optimise over $45 billion in community assets, including roads and bridges, airports, utilities, and public facilities.
This role sits within WALGA’s Transport and Roads Team, which provides advocacy, policy, research, and technical support to the Local Government sector. While WALGA doesn’t directly manage public assets, we provide expertise that helps Local Governments address complex challenges and implement practical, strategic solutions that deliver meaningful benefits to their communities.
In this role you’ll combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to tackle issues like asset management, disaster recovery, and unlocking land development constraints.
We’re looking for someone with an enquiring mind and a strong curiosity for new technologies. Someone who keeps their finger on the pulse of emerging infrastructure issues and brings forward thinking solutions to the sector. If you love diving into data, analysing insights, and identifying current and emerging policy issues that impact Local Governments, this role gives you the best of both worlds, where technical analysis meets creative communication to educate, advise, and influence change.
Your days will be varied and impactful.
One day you might:
- Interpret legislation and analyse asset data to support coordinated outcomes with utility providers
- Guide Local Governments through best practice frameworks.
- Formulate model policy templates, guidelines and procedures for our Local Governments to adapt.
- Advise a Local Government on disaster recovery funding requirements.
The next, you could:
- Represent WALGA at a meeting with a utility provider to collaborate and negotiate outcomes.
- Prepare discussion papers, agenda papers, and submissions that keep WALGA, and the sector informed and future focused.
You’ll also:
- Research what the commercial sector and other jurisdictions, nationally and internationally, are doing in the infrastructure space, bringing fresh ideas and global best practice to WA Local Governments.
- Monitor legislative changes and prepare submissions that influence State and Federal infrastructure policy.
Why you’ll love working here.
