INSURANCE DEFENSE/LITIGATION ATTORNEY
Wheeler Upham, P.C., located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is looking for a full-time attorney with one or more years’ experience to join its practice. The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit and seek the rewards and benefits of growing their practice within a small law firm. Candidates need to be willing to litigate and practice in a number of the firm’s practice areas, including insurance defense, probate litigation, and business litigation.
Qualified applicants should be prepared to engage in insurance defense and other civil litigation and have the ability to handle all aspects of the litigation process. Applicants will be expected to support clients with their non-litigation needs. Candidates should have experience with development of case strategy, legal research, preparation of responsive pleadings, briefs and memoranda, and communicating with clients regarding legal strategies and courses of action. Candidates must have experience preparing cases by gathering evidence, preparing written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and attending court hearings and mediation. Insurance litigation and trial experience is a plus.
Candidates need to be willing to relocate to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and work in the office full-time. Wheeler Upham is Grand Rapids’ oldest law firm and has been a leader in the Grand Rapids legal community since 1883.
Candidates must be admitted to the State Bar of Michigan or able to qualify for admission. Strong academic credentials and excellence in written and oral communication are required.
